3. Social media buttons

We welcome our readers recommending and discussing contents of our website on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and other social media sites. To this end, the operators of these platforms have provided corresponding buttons as part of the c't "Shariff" project.

Shariff enables you to use social media without unnecessarily compromising your privacy. The c't "Shariff" project replaces the usual social network share buttons and protects your surfing behaviour from prying eyes. A single click of the button will nevertheless enable you to share information with others. You do not have to do anything else – the webmaster looks after the rest.

The usual social media buttons transmit the user data for every page viewed to Facebook & Co. and give the social networks precise information about your surfing habits (user tracking). For this to happen you neither have to be logged on nor a member of the network. In contrast, a Shariff button only establishes direct contact between the social network and the visitor if the latter actively clicks the Share button.

"Shariff" therefore prevents you from leaving a digital trace on every page visited and improves the data protection. You can then post a like, Google +1 or tweet as you like – the social network will not receive any more information.

Thanks to "Shariff", the "likes" are displayed by the operator of the page with the buttons. Because "Shariff" is integrated by the webmaster, you do not have to do anything else as a visitor.

4. Links to third-party websites

Please note that other service providers’ websites that you can access here may ask you for personal data. This data protection statement does not apply to the websites of other service providers. Please note that other service providers’ websites that you can access here may ask you for personal data. This data protection statement does not apply to the websites of other service providers.
