Direct and alternating currentHVDC
High-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission is suitable for transporting large electrical capacities over long distances. HVDC will become increasingly important over the next few years. Possible applications include, for example, grid connections from offshore wind farms or DC-overlay grids. DC technology has the advantage that the voltage and current are inherently in phase, which means that – with the exception of the converter stations – no reactive power is produced.
